Calgow Equestrian
Opened in January 2003, Calgow Equestrian is owned and run by Anne Jolly. Anne was formerly a PE and Primary teacher and gave both up to follow her dream….to own a livery yard and riding school! Her equine qualifications include: SVQ Levels 2 & 3 in Horse Care and Management; Ride Leader for The Trekking and Riding Society of Scotland; Sport Scotland Certificate as Sports Coach and Safeguarding and Protecting Children; BHS Riding and Road Safety Certificate and BHS Preliminary Teacher. This makes her very well qualified to run Calgow Equestrian. Anne competes with her own horses and 2010 saw a list of successes:Lucky Strike her chestnut was 1st in the Veteran Class at Stranraer Show and Reserve Champion at Moniaive Show and Macy Grey was Champion Hunter at Stranraer Show. Her newest horse, Ring the Bell, looks well placed for competitions in 2011 having already won Reserve Champion in the Hunter Class at Ayr, and 1st place in the Novice Lightweight Show Hunter at The Royal Highland Show. Calgow Equestrian is situated on the outskirts of Newton Stewart and is easily accessible by all forms of transport. Although basically a DIY yard, having full time staff allows the option of part, full or holiday livery. There are various sizes of stables each with separate tack rooms. There is a seating area for the centre’s customers and toilet facilities. There is a large outdoor arena with access to jumps and dressage boards and also a small indoor arena. A judge’s caravan is beside the outdoor arena equipped with a PA system. Ample space is available for parking cars and trailers.
